The first film adaptation of The Diary of Anne Frank follows the Frank and Van Daan families in Nazi-occupied Holland, as they hid in shopkeeper Kraler's attic. Young Anne Frank (Millie Perkins) kept a diary of everyday life, chronicling the Nazi threat as well as family dynamics. A romance with Peter Van Daan caused jealousy between Anne and her sister, Margot. Otto Frank (Joseph Schildkraut) returned to the attic many years after the eventual capture of both families and finds his late daughter's diary.
